Ask Gemini to Modify Its Response

The multimodal nature of Gemini also enables these different types of input to be combined for generating output. Several users on X.com reported that, when they asked the search engine how many Muslim presidents the U.S. has had, it said that we had one who was Barack Obama (this is widely known to be false). By scraping and plagiarizing from tech websites like ours, Google has access to tons of specs, but it often fails at answering basic questions that any reasonably-savvy person would know. Google then made its Gemini model available to the public in December. Thanks to Ultra 1.0, Gemini Advanced can tackle complex tasks such as coding, logical reasoning, and more, according to the release. Meta has developed a reputation for being somewhat stingy, offering pay packages of between $1 million and $2 million, according to data unearthed by the tech-centric news site The Information. According to the Journal, Shazeer was so confident of Meena’s utility that he predicted it would one day replace Google’s search engine. To be fair, Google’s AI tries to warn you that hitting 500 wpm isn’t guaranteed. No human being has ever come close to hitting the 500 wpm mark and it might be physically impossible. From my research, it looks like the fastest typist in the world is Barbara Blackburn, who set a record of 212 wpm or less than half of that 500 wpm.

That means Gemini can reason across a sequence of different input data types, including audio, images and text. For example, Gemini can understand handwritten notes, graphs and diagrams to solve complex problems. The Gemini architecture supports directly ingesting text, images, audio waveforms and video frames as interleaved sequences. Character.AI’s website and mobile app has hundreds of custom AI chatbots, many modeled after popular characters from TV shows, movies, and video games. A few months ago, The Verge wrote about the millions of young people, including teens, who make up the bulk of its user base, interacting with bots that might pretend to be Harry Styles or a therapist. Another recent report from Wired highlighted issues with Character.AI’s custom chatbots impersonating real people without their consent, including one posing as a teen who was murdered in 2006.

For example, as is the case with all advanced AI software, training data that excludes certain groups within a given population will lead to skewed outputs. Google initially announced Bard, its AI-powered chatbot, on Feb. 6, 2023, with a vague release date. It opened access to Bard on March 21, 2023, inviting users to join a waitlist. On May 10, 2023, Google removed the waitlist and made Bard available in more than 180 countries and territories. Almost precisely a year after its initial announcement, Bard was renamed Gemini.

Lawyers for Garcia are arguing that Character.AI did not have appropriate guardrails in place to keep its users safe. This version is optimized for a range of tasks in which it performs similarly to Gemini 1.0 Ultra, but with an added experimental feature focused on long-context understanding. According to Google, early tests show Gemini 1.5 Pro outperforming 1.0 Pro on about 87% of Google’s benchmarks established for developing LLMs.
